The Fremont High School varsity soccer team defeated Sparta in the first round of
district tournament competition, but lost to Ludington in the next round.

The first round game at Sparta on Monday, Oct. 13, went to double overtime
before the Packers defeated the host team by 3 to 2.

Fremont was losing at halftime and did not appear to get much going until, with
13 minutes left in the match; Keith Marek passed the ball to Reed Luchies, who scored
Fremont’s first goal. The second goal came just 15 seconds later on a crossed
ball by Luchies to Dylan Graves.

The first overtime was scoreless, with Sparta getting the better scoring opportunities.
Adam Hawes was in net for the Packers for the last 20 minutes of regulation and
both overtimes, and made several impressive saves.

With 7:54 left in the second overtime, Luchies received a ball from Tony Chandonnet,
beat the keeper to the ball and placed it past his hands for the game-winner.

Graves made 12 saves in net and Hawes made six saves for the Packers.

Playing in their second round game on Wednesday, Oct. 15 in Sparta, the Packers
lost to Ludington in a 3-0 shutout. Ludington led by 2-0 at the half and scored
the final goal with two minutes left in the match. The Packers were outshot by 4
to 12. Graves made two saves and Hawes made seven.

In their final regular season match on Friday, Oct. 10, the Packers lost to Whitehall
by 5 to 2. Luchies assisted Chandonnet on both goals. Whitehall outshot Fremont
by 11 to 9. Graves made six saves.

Overall, the Packers ended their season with a 12-7-2 record.

Fremont wins with late save

The Fremont High School varsity soccer team defeated Newaygo by 4-3 on Monday, Oct.
6.

Newaygo out-shot Fremont by 12-7. The Packers’ Reed Luchies scored from an
assist by Tony Chandonnet for the only goal on either side in the first half.

Newaygo scored the next two goals, making it 2-1 with 13 minutes left in the match.
Keith Marek crossed a ball to Nate McLean, who then scored a head ball goal creating
an even score of 2-2. Dylan Graves came in to cross a ball to Chandonnet, who headed
it in for the goal. Luchies then came in to score off a pass from Andres Ayala,
making it 4-2.

Newaygo scored with 1:20 left in the match and had a penalty kick in the last 24
seconds of the game. Dylan Graves made the save for Fremont, preserving the Packer
win. Graves made nine saves in net and played the field for two minutes, when he
made the afore mentioned assist, while teammate Adam Hawes replaced him in net.

The Packers continued their winning streak this week, beating Orchard View in a
shut out on Wednesday, Oct. 8 with a final score of 2-0. Luchies scored off an assist
from Mike DeKuiper. Eric Twigg scored the sec ond goal off a missed pen alty kick.
Orchard View out shot Fremont 18-9. Graves made 18 saves in net and recorded the
shut out.

Fremont is now 11-5-2 over all and finished 6-3 in the conference.

In the boys’ varsity soccer match held on Thursday, Sept. 25, Spring Lake
took the game in a 3-0 shutout.

Spring Lake outshot the Packers by 22 to 6. Dylan Graves made 16 saves for Fremont
and Adam Hawes captured three of his own for the Packers.

“Spring Lake possessed the game and we wasted our scoring opportunities,”
said Coach Steve Vissia.

The Fremont team beat Ludington on Tuesday night, Sept. 30, scoring in nail-biting
second overtime to take a 4-3 victory. Fremont was out-shot by 16-15. Hawes made
13 saves. Reed Luchies scored the first two goals of the game on assists from Tony
Chandonnet and Jacob Sella. Nate McLean scored off a corner kick by Jacob Sella
in the first half. Ludington then scored with a minute to play in the first half.
The score at halftime was 3-1.

The only two goals scored in the second half were made by Ludington, which sent
the game into overtime. The first overtime was scoreless, but in the second one,
Andres Ayala slotted a ball to Chandonnet who finished the game-win ning goal.

Fremont lost against Ludington by 1 to 0 in the first round of the conference tournament
on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Ludington was the sixth seed, while Fremont was seeded third. Ludington made the
game-winning goal within the first 30 minutes of play in the match. Fremont out-shot
Ludington by 15 to 10. Graves made the nine saves for Fremont.

The loss knocked Fremont down into another bracket for the rest of the tournament.
The Packers were scheduled to play against Newaygo on Monday, Oct. 6.

Overall Fremont is 9-5-2 and 5-3 in the conference.

Fremont ties with Sparta

The Fremont High School boys varsity soccer team tied against Sparta, 4 to 4, on
Monday, Sept. 22.

Nate McLean scored Fremont’s first half goal off a pass from Reed Luchies. The
Packers trailed by 2 to 1 at the half.

Sparta led by 4 to 1 with only nine minutes left in the game. Luchies scored off
a penalty kick to make it 2 to 4, then McLean scored again on a deflected ball
five minutes later, making it 3 to 4.

With three minutes left, Dylan Graves netted the final goal off an assist from
Luchies. Sparta was awarded a penalty kick with less than two minutes left in
the match, but Adam Hawes made the save and preserved the tie. Sparta out-shot
Fremont 15-10. Graves made eight saves in net and Hawes made three saves.

Fremont beat Newaygo in a 4-0 shutout on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Tony Chandonnet
scored Fremont’s first goal eight minutes in on a set play from Luchies, who
added the second goal later in the first half. Luchies scored two more goals in
the second half. Tyler Smith recorded one assist, while Andres Ayala provided
two. Graves recorded his fifth shut out for the season and made 12 saves in the
process. Fremont out-shot Newaygo by 17-12.

Fremont is now 8-3-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Packers come from behind to win

The Fremont High School varsity boys soccer team defeated the Grant High School
team by 4-2 on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Grant had a 10-6 shot advantage in the match and led by 1 to 0 at the half. The
Tigers scored again in the second half and held the Packers scoreless until 22
minutes were left.

Fremont seemed to come alive as Mike DeKuiper sent a pass to Tony Chandonnet to
make the score 2-1. Two minutes later, Chandonnet chipped a ball to Reed
Luchies, who headed in to tie the match. Chandonnet scored the game-winning goal
two minutes later from Luchies to make the score 3-2. Luchies then scored the
final goal with just two minutes left in the match. Dylan Graves made eight
saves in net for Fremont.

To continue the winning streak for the week, Fremont met with Tri-County on
Thursday, Sept. 18 and claimed an 8-0 victory. Reed Luchies scored three goals
and Chandonnet added two more for the Packers. Tyler Smith took two of his own,
while Jacob Sella also scored for the team. Graves, Smith and DeKuiper all had
two assists and Cody Perry and Eric Twigg added single assists.

Graves made six saves in net and Adam Hawes made five saves. Fremont out-shot
Tri-County by 26-11.

Fremont is now 7-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

It was only four minutes of offense, but it was enough for Fremont to post a soccer victory.

Trailing 2-0 five minutes into the second half to host Grant, the Packers scored three goals in a four-minute span Tuesday en route to a 4-2 Lakes 8 Conference win.

“The first half, we were really lax,” said Fremont coach Steve Vissia.

“The second half, we really put our nose to the grindstone and played with more intensity.”

The comeback started when Tony Chandonnet scored 15 minutes into the second half to cut the Tigers lead to 2-1.

Two minutes later, Reed Luchies tied the game, and two minutes after that, Chadonnet added another goal for a 3-2 lead.

Luchies scored an insurance goal with two minutes left to play.

Grant (6-2-1, 2-1) jumped out early, taking a 1-0 lead two minutes into the game on a penalty kick by Alex Yanez. Jorge Bravo scored five minutes into the second half for a 2-0 lead.

Dylan Graves stopped eight shots for Fremont (6-3-1, 2-1).

The Tigers finished the game with a 10-6 shot advantage.

Fremont Fall to Fruitport

The Fremont High School boys soccer team lost to Fruitport on Tuesday, Sept. 9, falling by 5-1.

The Packers were out-shot by 17-4. Reed Luchies scored the lone goal for Fremont in the first half on an assist from Andres Ayala. Goalkeeper Dylan Graves made 12 saves for the Packers.

The Packers also lost in their match against Whitehall on Thursday, Sept. 11. The final score was 3-2. Whitehall scored the first three goals in the first 23 minutes of play. Tony Chandonnet scored off a pass from Luchies with six minutes left in the first half.

Luchies then scored on a penalty kick a minute later. Whitehall fired 22 shots on goal and Fremont shot 11. Graves made the 19 saves.

Fremont is now 5-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Spotting Orchard View’s soccer team a one-goal lead just seemed to fire up Fremont.

The Cardinals scored first on a goal by freshman Zach Sutton, but the Packers answered back with four straight and hung on for a 4-3 victory Tuesday in Lakes 8 action.

After Sutton’s goal, the Packers reeled off goals by Bent Vandenedal, Tony Chandonnet and two from Reed Luchies for a 4-1 lead.
