High School Marching Band Gets Another “1″ Rating

The Fremont Packer High School Marching Band earned its fourth consecutive First
Division Rating at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association District VII
Marching Band Festival held in Grand Haven on Oct. 15.

The students and their director, Mark Breza, left in the rain to perform their “Scenes
From an Italian Restaurant” show. The band performed its full show despite
the weather.

A tent covered the electronic equipment as Audrey Jansma played the violin and Allison
Rusco played the keyboard. Soloist Kerrie Baker played French horn and Color Guard
captain Kelsey Nestle entertained the judges with her large pizza pie. Drum Major
Connor Caplis led the band to its fourth consecutive First Division Rating.

The band’s final home halftime performance will be on Friday night, Oct. 24,
when the Packers will host the team from Benzie Central High School.

High School Marching Band – Places Second

The Fremont Packer High School Marching Band placed second overall in Class C in
the Red Flannel Marching Band Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Cedar Springs.

Ther FHS band, under the direction of Mark Breza, posted the highest score in the
band’s history and also won Awards of Excellence in Music and Marching.

After watching several other bands perform, the students packed up their equipment
and traveled on to Wyoming Park to compete in the Michigan Tournament of Bands.

With the sun setting, Drum Major Connor Caplis led the band to a close sec ond place
overall finish in Class C. The band also won the Achievement Award for Best Color
Guard and an Award of Excellence for Marching.

High School Marching Band – Places Second at Kenowa Hills

The Fremont Packer Marching Band traveled to Kenowa Hills High School on Sunday,
Sept. 27 to compete in the Kenowa Hills Knight Time Classic Marching Band Competition.

It was another beautiful, sunny fall afternoon, when the Fremont band, under the
direction of Mark Breza, took the field with its “Italian Restaurant”
theme.

Soloist Audrey Jansma began the show playing the electric violin. Other soloists
included senior Kerrie Baker playing French horn and senior Color Guard Captain
Kelsey Nestle. Drum Major Connor Caplis led the band in a performance that earned
a standing ovation from the audience and Awards of Excellence in Marching, Music,
Percussion and Color Guard.

In a very close competition, the Fremont Band took second place in overall per
formance in Class D.

The day was filled with more than 2,200 high school band students from Harbor Springs,
Petoskey, Forest Hills, Byron Center, Cedar Springs, Whitehall, Kenowa Hills, and
the Reavis Marching Band, who traveled all the way from Burbank, Illinois.

Fremont High School Band Honored

The Fremont High School Marching Band traveled on Sept. 20 to Grand Haven to
compete in the Grand Haven Marching Band Invitational

This was an exciting competition on a beautiful fall afternoon, and also
featured high school marching bands from Fennville, Whitehall, Sturgis,

Spring Lake and Otsego. The Grand Haven High School Marching Band was featured
in an exhibition performance.

This year the Fremont Packer Marching Band won trophies in Class C for the
categories of "Best Music," "Bet Marching," and "Best Color Guard." Most
impressive was the

band's first place award and trophy for Class C Marching Bands.

The Fremont Packer Marching Band is under the direction of Mark Breza.

Along with performing at halftime of FHS football games, the band is also
scheduled to march in the Fall Harvest Festival parade on Oct. 2 in downtown
Fremont.

High School musicians work hard at band camp

While most high school students were sleeping in, playing video games or heading to the beach, the Fremont High School Band headed for band camp.

The band members boarded the bus on Monday, July 14 at 8 a.m., and headed for Andrews University in Berrien Springs for a week of intensive rehearsals to prepare for the upcoming school year.

Upon arrival in Berrien Springs, the musicians formed a long line from the truck to the dormitory and passed the luggage, instruments and equipment from the truck into the dorm. Continue Reading…
